Banana Duck Plush
The banana duck is the plush that put us on a lot of beds. A duck zipped into a banana peel, sewn in five sizes and a growing stack of outfits.
About the banana duck plush
Why the banana duck keeps selling
We did not expect this one. A duck plush with a banana peel over its back reads as a joke for about two seconds, and then it turns into the thing somebody sleeps with. The body is long enough to hug across the chest, the peel gives it a shape that stays upright on a shelf, and the face is small enough that it stays cute instead of creepy. People who buy one banana duck plushie tend to come back for a second size, which is how a single soft toy quietly becomes a collection. It is a super cute shape, and the thing we hear most is that the duck somehow suits a desk, a bed and a car seat at the same time.
Sizes, and how to read the figures
Our banana duck plushies run 12", 19.7", 27.5" and 35.4". The 12" is a desk-and-backpack size and the one we send most often as a gift — it fits a tote without a fight. The 19.7" is the hugging size, long enough to tuck under an arm in bed. The 27.5" and 35.4" are pillows in every practical sense; they take a cushion of sofa and they are what people mean when they say they want a big one. Pick the size by where it will live, not by the price: a plushie that fits the bed it lands on gets used for years.
Outfits, candy bodies and the rest of the collection
Beyond the plain white and yellow ducks we sew a bowler hat and monocle version, a star nightcap, a birthday crown, a chef duck, a rose for a sweet gift, a bow, a Christmas duck, and a small run of candy and dessert bodies — cookies, donut, strawberry cake, cherry cake hat. The kawaii dessert ducks were an experiment and they stayed. Fill and fabric are identical across all of them; only the costume changes, so you can collect half a dozen and still know exactly what you are getting. They sit happily next to our long cat pillows, and plenty of people run a shelf with both a cat and a duck on it.
What it feels like, and what is inside
Every banana duck is packed with high-quality PP cotton — no beads, no pellets. We aim for a squishy, fluffy fill rather than a firm one, because the whole point of this plush toy is that it gives when you squeeze it. The peel panel is cut from the same short-pile materials as the body, so the two halves wear at the same rate. Squeezing a soft animal is a cheap way to park some stress for a minute, and that is most of the benefit people report: a premium-feeling plush that is calm to hold and easy to keep clean.
Who ends up with one
Kids, adults, and a surprising number of people buying for a friend who loves bananas and will get the joke. We have sent ducks as a get-well present, as a desk mascot, and as the one soft thing a student takes to a dorm — a bit of security in a new room. Nobody outgrows a plush animal they actually like, and a duck that lives on a bed extends into years of use rather than a single exciting afternoon. If a family wants matching sizes we are glad to help you pick; write to us and we will support the choice before you purchase, because a plushie that pleases the person opening it is worth more than a fast sale. Our happiest customer notes are the ones that are just a photo of a duck in a positive new home.
How to pick one
- Decide whether you want the duck to come out of the peel — that splits the shelf in two.
- 11.8 inches for a desk or a gift, 19.7 for sleeping with, the long pillow for a bed.
- White is the original; yellow photographs best; black sells out first every winter.
Sizes on this shelf
We measure end to end along the longest line, lying flat and unstretched, so a figure here is the whole plush and not how tall it stands when it sits. This shelf runs 7", 12", 19.7", 27.5", 35.4". If two sizes are close in price and the plush is going to be slept with, take the larger one.
What it is made of
Short brushed pile over a tight knit backing, filled with high-quality PP cotton blown in at an even density from nose to tail. Seams are turned to the inside, eyes and details are embroidered or sewn rather than glued, and every finished plush gets squeezed once before it is boxed.
Looking after it
Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap for everyday marks. Hand wash cool when it needs more, press the water out between towels instead of wringing, and dry flat for a day or two. Never a tumble dryer — heat is the one thing that permanently flattens plush fur. Brush with a soft brush once dry and the fluff comes back.
Questions about banana duck plush
Does the duck come out of the banana?
On the banana duck plush, yes — the peel is a separate sewn piece and the duck lifts out of it. On the long banana duck pillow the two are one body, because a 20-inch peel with nothing in it is a sad object.
Which colourway is the original?
White. The yellow, pink and black ducks came later, and the chef duck with the bowler hat and monocle came last.
Is the 11.8-inch one big enough to sleep with?
Most people say yes. If you want something to actually hug while sleeping rather than hold, go to 19.7 inches.
Are the hat and the monocle removable?
They are sewn on. Nothing on this plush is designed to come off in a hand.
