About the cat and kitten plush

Realistic cats and round cats

We sew two kinds of cat. The realistic kittens — 9.8", 12", 14" and 15" — are built on an animal shape with a proper muzzle, tucked legs and a tail that lies where a real tail lies. The round ones are the fat cats and the calicos: a sphere with ears, no apology offered.

Coats we match

Tuxedo, calico, orange tabby, striped grey, white, black, grey-and-white, and a Devon Rex with the short curled coat. Matching a real cat's markings is the single most common thing people write to us about, and it is why the colour list keeps growing.

Sizes and where they sit

A 7.9" cat plush fits a palm and a coat pocket. A 12" is a shelf cat. The 14" and 15" kittens are close to the weight and footprint of a real young cat, which is most of their appeal. The 17.7" pillow cats are for laps.

Fur that stays fluffy

Short pile on the realistic cats, longer and softer on the round ones. Both are stuffed with PP cotton. Brush the coat after a wash and it comes back; put it in a dryer and it will not.

How to pick one

  • Check whether the name says a kitten is included — those are two plushies for one price.
  • Sitting cats fit a shelf; long cats fit a bed.
  • For a first plush for a small child, stay between 11 and 16 inches.

Sizes on this shelf

We measure end to end along the longest line, lying flat and unstretched, so a figure here is the whole plush and not how tall it stands when it sits. This shelf runs 7.9", 9.8", 11.8", 12", 14", 15", 17.7". If two sizes are close in price and the plush is going to be slept with, take the larger one.

What it is made of

Short brushed pile over a tight knit backing, filled with high-quality PP cotton blown in at an even density from nose to tail. Seams are turned to the inside, eyes and details are embroidered or sewn rather than glued, and every finished plush gets squeezed once before it is boxed.

Looking after it

Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap for everyday marks. Hand wash cool when it needs more, press the water out between towels instead of wringing, and dry flat for a day or two. Never a tumble dryer — heat is the one thing that permanently flattens plush fur. Brush with a soft brush once dry and the fluff comes back.

Questions about cat and kitten plush

Is there a kitten inside the cat?

On the pieces where the name says so, yes — the body opens and a smaller kitten plush lives inside. Those are sold as a set and the card name will tell you.

Which cat is the one from your logo?

The curling-tail cat on our sign is a drawing rather than a product. The closest plush to it is the classic sitting cat in white.

Do the cat plushies have weighted bottoms?

No. Everything is PP cotton all the way through, so they stay light.
