About the palm-sized plush toys

A whole collection that fits in a hand

Everything on this shelf is between roughly 7" and 9.8". They are the plush animals people buy in threes: one for a bag, one for a desk, one for a bed. Several have a squeaker sewn into the body.

The animals

Sloth, red panda, fox, turtle, frog, hippo, unicorn, penguin, hedgehog, raccoon, capybara, panda, elephant, sheep, lion, pig, giraffe, reindeer, horse, bison, dragon, bunny and cow. We add to it most months.

Built small, not built cheap

A small plush toy is where corners usually get cut. Ours use the same short-pile fabric and the same PP cotton as the big pillows, with embroidered faces rather than glued-on parts, so they survive being carried in a pocket.

Gifts, party bags and first toys

They are the easiest thing we make to give away — cheap enough for a party bag, soft enough for a cot, and cute enough that adults keep them on a desk and claim they are for the children.

How to pick one

  • Buy two or three. One disappears.
  • One-piece plushies for the very young, accessorised ones for collectors.
  • If it is for a stocking or a bag, nothing here is too big.

Sizes on this shelf

We measure end to end along the longest line, lying flat and unstretched, so a figure here is the whole plush and not how tall it stands when it sits. This shelf runs 7", 7.8", 8", 9.8", 10", 11.8", 12", 15.7". If two sizes are close in price and the plush is going to be slept with, take the larger one.

What it is made of

Short brushed pile over a tight knit backing, filled with high-quality PP cotton blown in at an even density from nose to tail. Seams are turned to the inside, eyes and details are embroidered or sewn rather than glued, and every finished plush gets squeezed once before it is boxed.

Looking after it

Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap for everyday marks. Hand wash cool when it needs more, press the water out between towels instead of wringing, and dry flat for a day or two. Never a tumble dryer — heat is the one thing that permanently flattens plush fur. Brush with a soft brush once dry and the fluff comes back.

Questions about palm-sized plush toys

How small is palm-sized?

Mostly between four and eight inches — small enough to close a hand around, big enough to still carry proper embroidery.

Are they safe for a toddler?

The one-piece ones are. Avoid anything with a separate accessory until a child is past putting things in a mouth.

Why buy more than one?

Because a single small plush gets lost. Everybody who buys one of these comes back for three.
